Providence Presbyterian Church Expansion

Project Overview

Providence Presbyterian Church sits at 3510 Austin Parkway in Sugar Land, Texas, on a campus bordered by an established residential neighborhood. The expansion added a new concrete parking field on the open ground beside the existing building, tied into the campus drives and the public street.

Scope of Work

Keeton Construction Services’ scope for this project included:

• Site grading and preparation of the new parking area
• Concrete paving for the parking field, with sawcut control joints and curb and gutter around the perimeter
• Curbed landscape islands within the lot
• Concrete entry drive connecting the new lot to the existing building and the adjacent street
• Concrete sidewalk and pedestrian connections from the lot to the building entry
• Storm drainage inlets set into the pavement
• Site lighting
• Pavement striping: standard stalls, directional arrows, ADA accessible stalls with a striped access aisle and pedestrian crossing, and painted perimeter curbs

Building on an Active Church Campus

Church parking is a Sunday-morning problem before it is a construction problem. The work sits directly against the existing building and the drive the congregation already uses, and the site backs onto residential lots on two sides. Sequencing the paving so the church kept usable access, and keeping the earthwork and concrete operations contained, matters as much on a job like this as the pour itself.

Why Concrete

Concrete paving costs more up front than asphalt and takes longer to place. On a church lot it usually earns that back. The surface holds up to the heavy weekend loading, the summer heat, and the Gulf Coast soil movement that shortens asphalt life in this part of Texas, and it needs far less maintenance over the life of the lot, which matters for an owner running on a donation budget.
